Device compatibility

While both the Chipolo CARD Spot and the regular Chipolo CARD are wallet finders, they do not work with the same apps.

Chipolo CARD Spot works exclusively with the Apple Find My app and you will only be able to use it on iOS devices. The Spot works with all the features of the Find My app, which we will mention more about below.

The regular Chipolo CARD works with the Chipolo app that you can use either on an Android or an iOS device. The Chipolo app also comes with its own set of features that will make your search easier, but you will not be able to connect the regular Chipolo CARD with the Find My app on your iPhone.

Play sound

You can make both the Chipolo CARD Spot and the regular Chipolo CARD ring from their connected apps when they are in Bluetooth range and connected to your phone.

To ring the Chipolo CARD Spot, open the Find My app and tap on the ‘Play Sound’ button. The CARD Spot will ring with a loud melody that goes up to 105dB.

If you want to make the Chipolo CARD ring, you will need to tap the green ‘Ring to find’ button in the Chipolo app. The ringing on the regular CARD is a little lower and can go up to 95dB.

Range alerts

Both the Apple Find My app and the Chipolo app have the alerts feature. Both will send a notification to your phone if your wallet tracker goes out of range, or if you ever leave your wallet behind.

With the Find My app and the Chipolo CARD Spot, the ‘Notify When Left Behind’ feature needs to be enabled by the user.

In the Chipolo app that connects to the regular Chipolo CARD, the ‘Out of Range Alerts’ are enabled by default.

Battery life

The wallet finders are the same thickness, but the overall size of the Chipolo CARD Spot is a little wider.

Because of this, the Chipolo CARD Spot can hold a larger battery and will last about 2 years, while the regular Chipolo CARD will last about 1 year.

Battery type

Both Bluetooth finders are about as thick as a coin. Because of their extra thin design, they both use a custom battery that cannot be replaced or recharged.

When the battery on each wallet finder runs out, you can replace either one through the Chipolo Renew & Recycle program, where you can buy a new Chipolo Bluetooth finder with a 50% discount and send your old one back to us to recycle, free of charge.

With the Chipolo CARD Spot, you can register your wallet tracker and receive an email reminder before your battery runs out.

For the regular Chipolo CARD, the Chipolo app will show a notification on your phone, when the battery is about to run out.

Color

The color is the easiest way to tell the two wallet trackers apart:

The Chipolo CARD Spot is a dark color, fittingly called Almost Black.

The regular Chipolo CARD that works with the Chipolo app is white.

Volume

Both finders are loud enough to be heard from your wallet, but the Chipolo CARD Spot that works with the Find My app is a little louder since it is a newer model.

Chipolo CARD Spot will ring with a volume up to 105dB.

Regular Chipolo CARD will ring with a volume up to 95dB.

Different ringtones

You can change the ringtone on the regular Chipolo CARD that works with the Chipolo app since this is one of the features in the app.

There are 7 different ringtones for you to choose from, so you can pick the one that you can hear best.

The Chipolo CARD Spot only has one ringtone, but it does ring louder, so you will be able to hear it from any pocket.

Share feature

You can share the regular Chipolo CARD through the Chipolo app with your loved ones and double the finding power when you misplace your wallet.

The other person just needs to download the Chipolo app on their phone and create a Chipolo account for themselves. After they accept your share request, you will both see the last known location of your wallet on a map in the Chipolo app. You’ll also both see when, where and who the wallet was last connected to.

And whoever is closer to the wallet will also be able to make the Chipolo CARD ring.

The Chipolo CARD Spot cannot be shared with other people, as the Find My app doesn’t offer a sharing feature.

Voice commands

Since the Chipolo CARD Spot works exclusively with the Apple Find My app, you can only set up voice commands through Siri.

With the regular Chipolo CARD, which you can use both on Android and iOS devices, you can set up voice commands on Siri, as well as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.

Map view

Both the Find My app and Chipolo app display the approximate location where your lost wallet was last seen on a map.

On iPhones, both apps use Apple maps by default, while on Android devices the feature uses Google Maps.

Directions

The Find My and Chipolo apps also both offer a Directions feature that will show you the best route to the location where the wallet tracker was last connected to the app on your phone.

iOS devices will use Apple Maps for directions, while Android devices will use Google Maps.

Community find

While both versions of the Chipolo Bluetooth finder offer this feature, the advantage here goes to the Chipolo CARD Spot and the Find My app.

Since the CARD Spot works exclusively with the Apple Find My app, it also uses the Apple Find My network and all the hundreds of millions of devices in it to help with the search.

If you ever lose your wallet or it gets stolen, you can use the Notify When Found and Lost Mode features in the Find My app to help you locate your wallet as soon as possible.

The regular Chipolo CARD also has the Chipolo community find feature, however, it is limited to the devices in the Chipolo community. While there are a few million Chipolo users around the world, the Chipolo community is still much smaller than the Apple community.

CARD wallet finder shape

Both wallet trackers are rectangular in shape so you will have no problem fitting either one into your wallet, no matter how small it is.

The regular Chipolo CARD is slightly smaller than a credit card and the CARD Spot is shaped exactly like a credit card, to avoid any odd creases in your leather wallet.

They are also both extremely slim and come to about the thickness of a coin, so you will be able to slip them into any credit card pocket in your wallet or bag.

Dimensions of the Chipolo wallet trackers

Chipolo CARD Spot is the same shape as a regular credit card and about as thick as a coin, so it will fit into your wallet without any odd creases or lines on the exterior of your wallet.

Exact measurements are 85,1 x 53,6 x 2,4 mm (3,35 x 2,11 x 0,09 in)

The regular Chipolo CARD is again about as thick as a coin but is slightly smaller than a regular credit card. It will fit any credit card slot, as well as smaller pockets in your bag, backpack, or passport pouch.

Exact measurements are 68 x 37 x 2,15 mm (2,67 x 1,45 x 0,08 in)

Price

There is a slight price difference between the two models.

A single Chipolo CARD Spot will cost $35 USD, while a 2 pack comes with a discounted price.

The same applies to the regular Chipolo CARD that is slightly cheaper at $30USD, while the 2 pack and 4 pack both come with a discount.

Neither wallet finder has a replaceable battery, so you will need to buy a new one when the batteries run out. You also get a 50% discount for replacing your old Bluetooth tracker with a new one, since both are part of the Chipolo Renew & Recycle program.
