Chipolo POP vs. LOOP: Which tracker should you actually get?

If the convenience of a rechargeable battery is a must for you or you want a little extra finding performance, choose LOOP. If you need to tag multiple items and want a reliable, budget-friendly option for your daily essentials, you can’t go wrong with POP.

Both Chipolo POP and Chipolo LOOP are built to bring peace of mind to your routine, whether you’re gearing up for a multi-day trip or just trying to leave the house on time for once. But they each bring something different to the table – here’s how they compare.

Each of these features is designed to make finding your belongings just a little easier – but it’s important to understand how, so you can use your Chipolo tracker to its full potential. So let's dive a bit deeper.

Network: POP & LOOP are universally compatible with iPhone & Android

Both POP and LOOP use two major global networks, Apple Find My and Google’s Find Hub, to locate your items on a map. You simply open the app on your phone (Find My on iPhone or Find Hub on Android) and look at the map to see your item’s last location. From the app, you can use the Play Sound feature to ring your Chipolo when it’s nearby or share your tracker with your friends or family.

Battery type: Replaceable vs. rechargeable

If you prefer to swap a battery and forget about it for a year, POP uses an easily replaceable standard coin battery (CR2032). If you would rather skip the battery hassle, LOOP is rechargeable via USB-C and lasts up to one year per charge. If you keep the battery healthy (charge it only when needed and never let it hit absolute zero), LOOP should last you a good 5 years.

Bluetooth range: Finding items near and far

POP offers a solid 90 m (300 ft) Bluetooth range, which easily covers your house, apartment, or office. LOOP extends that reach to 120 m (400 ft), giving you more coverage when you need a little bit extra finding power.

Bluetooth range is not a limitation

If your item strays out of range, both trackers use the Apple Find My or Google’s Find Hub network to find it practically anywhere in the world (regardless of where your phone is in relation to the tracker). The only time your Chipolo should be within the Bluetooth range of your phone in order to work is when you want to ring it or when you want to use it to find your phone.

Sound volume: Loud or very loud?

POP’s ringing volume peaks at 120 dB, while LOOP takes that up a notch at 125 dB. Typically, we get feedback that both trackers are almost too loud – that’s why we even made a feature in our app that allows you to adjust the ringing volume.

Even though POP and LOOP don’t have UWB, the loud sound makes it incredibly easy to find your items when they’re deep inside a bag, buried under a pile of clothes, or simply in another room.

Fun fact: Because decibels increase logarithmically rather than linearly, that tiny 5 dB jump between POP and LOOP packs a real punch. To human ears, 125 dB sounds about 1.4 times louder than 120 dB. And here we thought we’d never use math in real life.

Attachment: Built-in keyhole vs. silicone loop

POP comes with a classic built-in keyhole, making it easy to pop right onto your existing keyring, luggage tag, or backpack zipper. LOOP takes a different approach with its flexible silicone loop integrated into the design. It moves with you more freely than POP, and it attaches just as easily to any item you want to track. POP and LOOP don’t require any extra accessories, like a case, which means no additional hidden costs.

Free extra features

Beyond hardware, both trackers come with free extra features in the Chipolo app. The Chipolo app is optional (i.e., it’s not required for you to be able to locate your belongings), but it offers some very handy finding features.

Extra features overview:

• Call Your Phone: Our most popular feature. Once enabled, you can simply double-press your POP or LOOP to ring your phone and find it in seconds. The best part? It works even when your phone is in silent mode.
• Out of Range Alerts: Our patented alerts make sure you never leave anything behind. A kind reminder will notify you to turn back in time and retrieve your item before it’s too late. This feature is available for Android users only. For iPhone users, it's built directly into the Find My app.
• Change Ringtone: Using this feature, you can change the ringtone of each Chipolo you own. With new tones being added over time, you can assign a different ringtone for each item tagged with a Chipolo.
• Ring and Blink (LOOP only): You can set up your LOOP so that its built-in LED light starts blinking when you ring your tracker. Very handy when your keys are buried deep inside a dark backpack or under the car seat.
• Adjust Ring Volume: If you find your Chipolo is too loud, use this feature to tone it down and adjust the sound level to your liking. This feature is available for iPhone users only. For Android users, it's built directly into the Find Hub app.
• Take a Selfie: This feature lets you use your Chipolo like a remote camera shutter. You simply open the Chipolo app, then double-press your POP or LOOP to take a photo. Perfect for group photos or solo travel snapshots.

You can also use the Chipolo app to ensure you have all the latest software updates that help your tracker work as efficiently as possible.

Colors, design & durability

POP comes in six vibrant shades that add a pop of color to your everyday carry. The colors stand out just enough to also make it easier to spot your items. Meanwhile, LOOP leans into an elevated, refined look that earned it the Red Dot Design Award. Its palette is more muted, but still just as playful as POP’s.

Apart from the colors, the two trackers also differ in size – though with only a 1.2 mm (0.05 in) difference, you’d have to stare at them uncomfortably for a solid minute to even notice it. Ultimately, the choice comes down to which aesthetic fits your personal style best.

Beyond their shells, both trackers are built to handle the elements. POP is resistant to water and dust with an IP55 rating, which means a bit of rain won’t hurt it. But if you want to take your tracker on proper outdoor adventures, LOOP has a fully waterproof and dust-tight design with an IP67 rating. It can handle being submerged in 1 meter of fresh water for up to 30 minutes.

Still, we don’t recommend you take it snorkeling (no limbs, so it’s a really bad swimmer).

Both trackers are designed and built under one roof at our headquarters in Slovenia using at least 50% recycled plastic. We didn't stop at the trackers themselves, either – we entirely removed every bit of plastic from your unboxing experience, too. Both trackers come in 100% paper-only, FSC-certified packaging.
