Nature of the data generated
The data generated varies depending on the ecosystem used with the product. The relevant app may be a related service under the EU Data Act and may collect and process data related to your connected Chipolo products.
When used with the Apple Find My app or Google's Find Hub app:
The respective platform operator (Apple or Google) acts as the relevant data holder and, where personal data is processed, as the relevant data controller. Chipolo d.o.o. does not access, process, or store location or usage data generated within these third-party apps and finder networks.
For Apple, see Apple Data and Privacy and Apple Regulatory Information | EU Data Act.
For Google, see Google Privacy & Terms.
When used with the Chipolo app:
- Personal data: User account information (name, email address).
- Product status data: Battery status (level), timestamps of connection/disconnection events, device firmware version, device model and color.
- Customer usage data: Chipolo button-press events (e.g., for the “Call Your Phone” feature) and other app-usage related analytics events based on provided consent.
- General environment data: The device itself does not contain environmental sensors (e.g., temperature, humidity) and does not generate or infer such data.
Chipolo uses data available through the Chipolo app to provide and maintain the service, display product status, deliver firmware or software functionality, troubleshoot issues, maintain security, provide customer support, and improve the app and service where permitted by law and, where required, based on user consent.
Estimated volume of data inside the Chipolo app
< 100 kB per day depending on usage frequency (e.g., number of disconnection and connection events).
Data format and generation by the Chipolo app
Data is transmitted from the product to the app via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Where required to provide the Chipolo app service, relevant data is stored on secure servers in operational databases. Data is generated on an event basis, such as when a product connects or disconnects, when a button is pressed, when firmware/device status is checked, or when the user interacts with the app. The Chipolo product does not continuously stream data in real time.
Data made available to users is provided in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format, such as JSON or CSV, depending on the type of data and export method. Where technically feasible and legally permitted, the export includes relevant metadata necessary to interpret the data.
Data storage and retention by the Chipolo app
The Chipolo device itself does not store historical usage or environmental data. It only retains essential firmware and pairing information. For the Chipolo app, data is stored on secure servers located within the European Union (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany), managed by Chipolo d.o.o.
Functional data is retained for as long as the user account is active to provide the service. Data is deleted upon user request or when the account is deleted. This does not affect separate retention obligations for transactional or accounting records, where applicable.

Users may request that data available under the EU Data Act be made available to a third party of their choice by contacting data@chipolo.net or by using the available export functionality where applicable. Chipolo may require reasonable steps to verify the user’s identity and authority to make the request.
