Chipolo Point delay and Google Find My Device app status

We understand that some of you have been eagerly awaiting your Point trackers for a while now and the good news is that your Chipolo Point finders are all lined up and ready to be shipped out as soon as possible.

So why aren’t we shipping them out?

What’s happening right now

Well, here's the catch – Chipolo Point trackers rely on Google’s Find My Device app for location tracking features and some of the updates there are still in the works. Namely, the unwanted tracker alert feature.

Here’s the latest update from Chipolo, December 22nd, 2023:

“The joint unwanted tracker alert specification by Google and Apple was published on December 22. We are now waiting for an update about the timeline for the implementation of the protections against unwanted tracking for iOS.

After that, we can expect Google’s new timeline for rolling out the Find My Device app update which is necessary for Point products to work.

In the meantime, we are hard at work updating Point firmware to match the new specs.”


Previous update from Google, July 27th, 2023:

“We are working in partnership with Apple to help finalize the joint unwanted tracker alert specification by the end of this year. At this time we’ve made the decision to hold the rollout of the Find My Device network until Apple has implemented protections for iOS.”

At this point, Google has decided to postpone the rollout of their Find My Device app and at Chipolo we agree that ensuring a seamless and secure experience for all users (Android and iOS alike) is paramount, so we will not be sending out any Chipolo Point finders until the necessary user protections are in place.

What happens next?

Rest assured; we're keeping a close eye on when we will be able to send out your Chipolo Point finders.

As soon as Google announces that tracking your things with Google’s Find My Device app is secure, we will ship out all pre-orders and make Chipolo Point finders available for purchase in our online shop.
